D*Face - Interview / Studio Visit

"D*Face is undoubtedly one of the most important artists working within the realms of street art today. His bold compositions and daring outdoor work continues to push the boundaries to new levels. AM was lucky to be invited into D’s studio to carry out an interview with the man himself, just ahead of him flying out to New York for his much anticipated solo show at Jonathan Levine Gallery “Ludovico Aversion Therapy / All Your Dreams Belong To Us” (teased).

Taking part of it’s name from the treatment given to the character of Alex in Burgess/Kubrick’s classic tale of ultra-violence in “A Clockwork Orange,” we’re sure that New York will be a captive audience - but will it be able to handle D*Face’s bombardment of visual reconditioning?

D just updated his website here with a sneak view of something that will be given away to those who attend the opening. Read on for our interview and pictures ..." click arrestedmotion

D*Face - Missile strike

"Missile strike - It's FREE fun for all the family this summer! Transform your local safety bollards in 5 simple D*Face steps...

1. Pick a spot; a bent bollard works best (preferably on the end of a row of bollards so the joke can be got)
2. Search skips for a 2ft length of drain pipe and 3 pieces of ply wood.
3. Cut, glue and paint appropriately. I've gone for the millatry green option... again.
4.Paint bollard, glue drain pipe in place and stencil cracks.
5. Take a photo and retreat." via myspace.com/d_faced

Making of "aPOPcalypse Now" - A documentary about D*Face
by Viktor Vauthier

"In a world where we are constantly bombarded with artificial images, Viktor Vauthier's photography is a breath of Fresh air. Born in south of France and raised in London, is incorrigible, he's in constant motion, working several cons at once. Using a 35mm camera, no airbrushing or elaborate lighting, Vauthier's images are voyeuristic and addictive..." viktorvauthier

D*Face - about ...

"D*Face" aka. Dean Stockton. Grew up in London and had a childhood interest in graffiti. He credits this to Henry Chalfant's coverage of New York subway graffiti in Spraycan Art and Subway Art, later as a teenager skateboarding and in particular Thrasher magazine's coverage of skateboard deck graphics led his interest in stickers and the DIY mentality associated with skate and punk fanzines.

He attended an illustration and design course and worked as a freelance illustrator/designer whilst honing his street work. Influences included Shepard Fairey's "Obey Giant" art campaign, Jim Philips, hip hop, punk music, and popular animated cartoons..." wiki

D*Face - Interview

"Not long ago I was able to catch up with D*Face and his right hand man, WordtoMother in New York City. I was pretty impressed to find that a guy who grew up in London was as influenced by 80s American skate culture as many of us were in the states...

Taking his 80s skate influences, combined with wicked bold character illustration and plenty of clever punk rock irony D*Face has developed an artist style and street art system that is all his own. One thing we can all be sure of, D*Face will always be the guy to get the last laugh..." via donutchocula read the interview at fecalface
